It’s just the most beautiful sunny day! Spains provided us all with a delicious continental breakfast.
Hairdresser and makeup lady arrived on time.
Went to see the florist over at the Stables in my curlers!!! I am sooooo excited yet so nervous!!!!
Flora arrived at 11 and re-assured us all that everything was going to plan and we need not worry about a thing!
Slight drama when getting in to my wedding dress – a button came off. Rang Flora who instantly appeared with sewing kit..... she’s marvellous!
Dad arrived and had a little weep when he saw me in my dress. Lucky I’d worn waterproof mascara and fortunately Flora had a tissue to hand! We all walked over to the Registrar’s Office. I don’t know who was more nervous!
Flora collected us from the Registrar’s Office and led us to the Coach House doors. I could hear The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba playing which we had provided on CD. They have an amazing music system with an extensive library of music to choose from. Dad looked so proud as I took his arm.
It was like a dream walking back up the aisle to “Maggie May”! All my friends smiling and taking pictures... We got completely showered with rose petal confetti on leaving the dovecote.

We had some photos done at the front of the house and then we made our way into the Gardens. They are full of flower filled borders and wonderfully scented roses.
Our guests were having a fabulous time sipping Pimms, eating mouth-watering canapés (their famous fish and chip cones had everyone talking!) and playing all the garden games. David, our best man, thrashed Uncle Bill at croquet and my nieces loved playing giant noughts and crosses.
It was all so beautiful I can’t believe it was all ours for the day. We felt so relaxed and well cared-for up in the garden with all our friends that we decided not to have the receiving line after all.
Went to refresh my lippy! I’d kissed so many people! Gosh those 5 star loos are fab -I have my own personal one with a special mirror! My friends had hung all their hats on the hat clips and the music which we had supplied from Guy’s Ipod was playing.
Flora had everyone seated in the Banqueting Hall. I felt so lucky and proud to be Mrs Robertson. The room looked stunning, the lightning matched my colour scheme perfectly and the tables were all dressed just as I had asked.
The Le Talbooth meal was really delicious and so reasonably priced we couldn’t believe the quality and the professional way it was presented and served. We had the Smoked Salmon with capers, shallots and granary bread followed by Gressingham Duck breast and the pudding was to die for ..... summer pudding with clotted cream and fresh berries ... yummmy!
The speeches were hilarious. Dad’s speech was so moving: Mum and I wept and the Best Man had us all in stitches.
I wonder where he got that picture of Guy as a Boy Scout.... you should have seen his face! It was handy to have the microphones as Auntie Ruth’s hearing is not as good as it used to be.
The cake looked so good on its silver stand that we didn’t want to cut it. All our friends crowded round us and took pictures. We are going to keep the top layer for our first born’s Christening.
The bar opened and as it was the most fantastically warm and lovely evening many of our guests went back into the gardens to play games.
It was so lovely to see so many of Guy’s and my workcolleagues turn up.They kept on telling me what a magical place Spains was and how exclusive it all felt.
We were going to have our first dance but everyone was having so much fun outside that Flora suggested we have it later. They are so flexible.
Wow!!! Couldn’t believe the amazing spread of hot and cold food on the Buffet. I just love Chicken Satay and my brother, Paul, helped himself to at least four Roast Beef and Horseradish mini baps. So lovely to have it on the Terrace too.
Flora then got everyone to come back inside to watch the first dance. We had chosen Robbie Williams “She’s the one” because it was the first single Guy had bought me! It was a very special moment for both of us. The DJ was completely fab, Spains has such a great choice of entertainers.
Everyone sang the last song and brought an end to the most fantastic and memorable day of our lives. We said goodbye to our guests and then were amazingly grateful that Crest Lodge was only a few metres away. How welcoming it was, the lights had been put on, the curtains drawn and it had been tidied and cleaned for us.
Having slept like logs and had a good breakfast it was lovely that Lady Ruggles-Brise came to see us off. |
